Why do I start so many books and NEVER finish them?

Every single month I tell myself that I’m going to finish every single book I pick up . . . and every single month without fail, I abandon at least 12 books the moment I am so close to finishing them. Just think, how many books would I actually finish each year if I actually finished them? At least twelve more than usual, that’s for sure.

So, for December, I’m going to try and finish all the half-read books on myself, or at least the ones I started in the last few months that is.

Yellow by Megan Jacobson

I started Yellow about half through the year because a few people I know and love, absolutely adored it. I only made it forty-five percent of the way before I put it down.

I didn’t put it down because I hated it or wasn’t enjoying it, I just felt like the protagonist was just too young for me at the time. Which is not a bad thing, young protagonists offer an amazing insight to so many different situations, and are extremely important, especially to the younger half of the young adult ‘age-bracket’ – which I am technically no longer in. *much sadness* **will read it anyway** ***for as long as I want***

But this month! I SHALL FINISH IT.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas

The moment this came out, I was at Dymocks buying my copy to binge and love and treasure. Every Goodreads status updated I posted about this book was apparently written by a very excited me.

I can’t believe I was so excited about this book and still never finished it? This book was one of the books I #needed and I barely made it a third of the way through before it ended back on my shelf untouched.

But this month, I shall conquer the beast (hopefully)

Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas

I’ve only read about a hundred pages of this big guy, and again, I have no idea why I put this down? I loved Queen of Shadows at the time and was practically counting the days for the next book to come out.

Hopefully if this month goes well, I can cross both ACOWAR and Empire of my TBR pile, and then Tower of Dawn . . . eventually.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The narrator of this audio book is so boring, so I’ll blame him. He’s the reason I never finished this book.

I have a copy on my shelf and ready to read. I really enjoyed the story, or at least what I’ve listened to so far. It’s a unique concept and I love the time period that it’s set in. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much luck with books involving circuses *cough* Caraval.

I’m really hoping I manage to finish these this month, alongside my #LoveOzYA Bingo TBR. What books have you started but never finished? Have you every revisited them?

Until next time, may the reading fairies bless you this December and help you achieve your Goodreads goal~

  1. I’ve actually read all of these. I need to reread The Night Circus at some point – I adored it, but it’s not a fast read. Yellow’s great, too!

  2. I cleared my “Currently reading”-shelf on Goodreads this month! Decided to officially DNF one – The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August – which was just.. not my cup of tea at all. I felt like I was reading some school textbook or something with all the time traveling-discussions and.. ugh. Nope.
I put Dracula back on my TBR for another time as well. I wasn’t in the mood for it. Maybe one day!

I did, however, finish two other books FINALLY. One of which I started reading in.. July or August? “Because You Love To Hate Me”. Some stories in that anthology just made me not want to read the next one, haha.
Also finally finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. So I can completely get throwing aside books when you’re in the middle of them! The stupid thing is that picking them back up is always soooo ridiculously hard.. I wish you the best of luck with that!!

    1. Oh no! I was so looking forward to The First Fifteen Lives Of Harry August, hopefully if I pick it up I enjoy it, it sounds interesting to me.

I’m always removing books off my currently reading shelf out of shame and secretly hope no one notices. Hopefully we all finish the books we’ve half started – good luck with Dracula!

      1. It just wasn’t my thing, haha. I heard good things about it as well but one book can never appeal to everyone unfortunately. I’m curious to hear your thoughts about it though!

Haha, I know the feeling! Thank you! You too!

  3. Oh my goodness. THIS. Story of my life lately. I think for me is that I will start it and then I’m like “Oh this looks more interesting so let me start reading…'” It does not help when you have so many books on your TBR. HAHA
