Wrap Ups

January Reading Wrap Up | 2018

Hello! How are you all going?! I hope January was a brilliant reading month for you, and if it wasn’t THAT’S OKAY!!!! Speaking of January, how in the book fairy’s name is it already over?

I honestly feel like I accomplished absolutely nothing this month, but then I search through the #YADay threads on Instagram and Twitter and I go holy shittttt, I did something good with a great friend of mine. And wow, I impress myself.

I also managed to read twelve books? Twelve? I was hoping for fifteen, but I’ll take what I can get and reward myself with a few books from my local bookshop. Anyway, I guess you clicked on this post, so you can see what I finished last month, so here it goes!

The Bone Witch by Rin Chepeco
✰✰✰✰.5

I listened to this one on audible and loved it! I really enjoyed to the story and how it was told, however, I was much more intrigued by Tea’s teenage years, when she first begins her training. The writing was absolutely beautiful, and I can’t wait to get into the sequel once it’s out.

Secrets for The Mad by Dodie Clark
✰✰✰✰✰

Back at again with the audios! I finished this gorgeous biographical guide to living in just a few hours (it’s a short audio book) and I really loved it. I kind of have a new-found respect for Dodie. I had parts through out this where I couldn’t help but cry, and I felt I could really relate with some of Dodie’s stories and experience. PLUS, BETWEEN CHAPTER, there were songs, which really added to the whole experience.

Whisper by Lynette Noni
✰✰✰✰

I received a copy of Whisper at the #YAShowcase late last year in Melbourne and I really loved it! I really enjoyed the Aussie setting, and the concept was brilliant and I spent the whole novel not knowing what to expect. I can’t say too much, because it’s not out until May, but! Make sure you at this to you May TBR! It’s worth a read – plus it’s #LoveOzYA!

Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman

I’ve already reviewed this ‘work of art’ here. But I hated it.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
✰✰✰✰.5

So many unanswered questions! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AFTER? This tiny book was perfect for such a tiny prince and planet and I’ve found so many new favourite quotes from this. I need to pick up the sequel soon.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
✰✰✰.5

So, this was our BoTM for The YA Room, and I’ve posted a review here! I really enjoyed it at the time I read/reviewed it and all I could do was rave about it. But now that it’s been a couple weeks since I’ve put it down, I definitely think it’s slightly problematic at times – and I’m not the only one who feels that way. I dropped my rating by a star since my review.

The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
✰✰✰✰

This was a reread and I loved it just as much as I did all those years ago when I was in high school, I can’t wait to finally finish this series!

 Fence 1, 2 & 3 by C.S Pacat
✰✰✰✰✰

I need volume four so bad! I had no idea I’d love a series about cute boys and fencing so much! It’s such an adorable comic AND I NEED MORE.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown
✰✰✰✰✰

Holy poop, what can I say about this one? I started reading it because of that Piera-Pressure and it was just the greatest. It’s so well written and I really loved the story line. PLUS, every single chapter has me wanting more, and I picked up Golden Son immediately. Also, I’ve finally knocked this off my TBR! It was one of the books I wish I read in 2017 but never got to, and now I’ve conquered it!

Simon VS. The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
✰✰✰✰.5

I lovedddd this cute contemporary! I felt like I could really connect with Simon, and the book was just funny. I cried and laughed, and I’ve already passed this on to my mum to read. I’ve also had a chance to see the movie, although it’s not out in Aus until March 29th, and it was so true to the book and I loved it just as much.

I didn’t overly like Upside Of The Unrequited, so I’m so glad I decided to still give Simon a go.

So those were the 12 books I managed to get through this month! Did you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments down below, also if you’ve posted a wrap up video or post, let me know so I can check it out in the comments.

Happy reading,

alexandra

  1. I love the narrator for The Bone Witch so much! I could not get into the book when I was reading it but her voice turned it into a stellar audiobook. She’s doing the American Panda audiobook too so I am so tempted to get that with my next credit.
The Cruel Prince is my problematic fave ok ;_; I still love my morally corrupted children.
AND YESSS read the rest of Red Rising before we accidentally spoil you on twitter (you should block all of us tbh XD)

    1. I’ve not heard much about American Panda but all of a sudden I’m seeing it every where so I’m really excited to get my hands on it ASAP!!
AHH!! I’m hoping to finish Morning Star this weekend so that I can finally start the beast that is Iron Gold x.x Hopefully Morning Star doesn’t kill me in the process!
